This website is devoted to getting information about Santa Clara and its plans for the future out to the voting public, especially regarding high-density development. Santa Clara has a plan to incorporate over 5000 additional housing units in the next couple of years, and they seem to believe that in-filling high-density units in single-family residential neighborhoods is a proper way to go about this.
Currently, we are focused on Fairfield Residential’s plans for the Kaiser site at 900 Kiely Boulevard, but are more and more drawn in by nearby projects that affect our traffic, services, safety, and quality of life just as much.
Fairfield Residential is in the process of purchasing the old Kaiser Permanente hospital site located near the corner of Kiely and Homestead. The have submitted an application with the City of Santa Clara to develop over 800 units on the 26 acres of land — including high-density apartment complexes at over 50 units per acre — right next to 1-6 units per acre single-family homes.
On this site you will find information regarding all of Fairfield Residential’s actions and any articles or pamphlets relevant to the project. Please bear with us as we try to get the information online.
Thank you.

Dear Santa Clara residents,
My name is Tap Merrick. I am a Sunnyvale resident (Firth Court at Lochinvar in Birdland) that has been one of those leading the campaign against the Cities of Santa Clara and Sunnyvale and their efforts to overdevelop our neighborhood (near Lawrence and El Camino).
We were successful in keeping 11 acres of sports fields at Peterson Middle School open space. We are currently fighting Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara from increasing the size of their physical plant by some 50 to 100%, and thus placing a much larger traffic burden on our neighborhood. Likewise, we have been very active over the past 18 months fighting the development of a 9 story (not eight) mixed use retail/office/residential complex on the southwest corner of Lawrence and El Camino, which would have some 490 condo units, with over 1600 parking spots (although not enough to meet even minimum demand).
We have noted your similar concerns with the City of Santa Clara, and would like to join forces with your organization to help force the City of Santa Clara to pare down their wildly ambitious plans to overdevelop every local neighborhood (except their own, of course) to help meet their out of control political abitions.
Please feel free to contact me at tapmerrick@yahoo.com or joint our Yahoo e-mail group “santa_clara_neighbors_for_responsible_development@yahoogroups”, so that we may contact each of you as new developments arise.
Thank you.

P.S. Did you know that although Santa Clara’s General Plan specifically states that the maximum height along El Camino should only be 4 stories (chapter 3, page 30, dated July, 2004) the City has been negotiating this 9 story project with the developer since 2003? Did you also know that the City of Santa Clara has similar plans for mixed use development and condo units numbering around 450 at two of the other three corners at El Camino Real and Lawrence Expressway? Is this what you really want for your city?
